Epoxy floor FAQs
Is epoxy pigment a complete floor coating?
No. Solid Color and Liquid Nebula metallic pigments are colorants that must be mixed into the specified epoxy. The pigment container alone will not coat a floor.
Which epoxy should I use for the base coat?
CR-531 Standard Epoxy is the preferred base coat for most solid-color, flake and metallic systems. Select the base-coat color to coordinate with the decorative finish being installed.
When should I use Extended Work Time Epoxy?
Use Extended Work Time Epoxy for metallic coats and when additional placement time is helpful, including warmer application conditions. Always follow its current temperature, film-thickness and cure requirements.
Do metallic floors need a separate base coat?
Yes. A metallic system normally uses a properly prepared, pigmented base coat followed by the extended-work-time metallic epoxy coat containing Liquid Nebula pigment.
Does epoxy need a clear topcoat?
A compatible urethane or polyaspartic clear topcoat is recommended where the system calls for added abrasion, chemical and wear protection. Match the topcoat to the epoxy system and intended use.
Can epoxy be installed over painted or sealed concrete?
Do not apply directly over an unknown or poorly bonded coating. Existing paint, sealer, adhesive, curing compound and contamination must be evaluated and removed or prepared as required before coating.
How should concrete be prepared for epoxy?
The concrete must be clean, sound, dry, properly profiled and evaluated for moisture. Preparation requirements depend on the slab and coating system, so follow the current technical data sheets.
When can people or vehicles return to the floor?
Return-to-service time depends on the epoxy, topcoat, temperature, humidity and installed thickness. Follow the longest applicable cure time in the complete system before allowing foot or vehicle traffic.
